Serving both sides of the Øresund Bridge, the Øresunddirekt information office and website provides information on how to get around (mainly work) on the other side of the border. The organisation is in direct contact with the authorities in both countries (Denmark and Sweden), who keep Øresunddirekt staff informed of any changes. The cross-border cooperation consists of two main parts: a central information office in Sweden and a communication department in Copenhagen.
The central office in Malmö is responsible for liaising with the authorities (e.g. the employment service, social security office, tax office, local administration) and customers. The office deals with around 20,000 enquiries a year, whether they concern study grants on both sides of the border, cross-border commuting, taxation or social security. They also provide assistance with business advice and organise information events for individuals and companies. The office is funded by the Swedish authorities, the Skåne Region and the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The Danish office across the strait is responsible for maintaining the Øresunddirekt website and updating the information available on it. The websites are trilingual and have a dedicated interface for businesses. They are also involved in editing publications, marketing services, surveys and special projects (e.g. cooperation with job advertising websites). The financial operation of the Copenhagen office is guaranteed by the Danish Tax Agency, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Swedish region of Skåne and the municipalities of Copenhagen and Tårnby.
The two offices complement each other and work in close cooperation to serve people in the border region. By organising job fairs, liaising with the Danish and Swedish authorities and identifying obstacles to border crossing, they aim to ease administrative obstacles on the other side of the border.
