Your Europe is a Your Europe | Language selection information platform that provides an overview of the most important legislation and administrative requirements in the Member States of the European Union. The site aims to promote the rights and opportunities of European citizens and businesses. The website performs an electronic public service function, reducing information barriers, making different national administrative procedures more transparent and contributing to the four fundamental freedoms of the EU.
The platform, which has been operational since 17 February 2005, has a triple role. On the one hand, it provides a synthesis of EU fundamental rights and, on the other, it maintains a network of national portals, a collection of official websites of national authorities. It also provides a free help service, a problem reporting function.
The website is maintained and the information is collected by the European Commission, DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs. National authorities first collect the regulations and administrative procedures in their country, which are then forwarded to the European Commission, which, after proofreading, translation and other post-processing, publishes them on the Your Europe website. Both the EU institutions and national governments take responsibility for the authenticity of the information published.
The information platform is available in all official EU languages and consists of five main menu items.
• The search interface gives you a simple overview of the information you can find on the website. After answering a search question, the search engine will direct the user to the website of the relevant national body.
• In addition to the search interface, there are also separate menus for citizens/consumers and businesses. EU citizens and their family members can find information (and additional sub-sections) on travel, employment and retirement, vehicles, living abroad, education and youth, health, family and consumer affairs. A practical guide for entrepreneurs provides an overview of running a business, taxation, selling in the EU, human resources, product requirements, finance and access to resources, and customer relations. Within this main category, the user can also browse through additional sub-categories.
• There is a separate help service, where the user can contact and request more detailed information from the competent national body by using the search engine.
• If the information available has not solved the problem the user is experiencing, he or she can raise the issue in a separate problem report.
