Few bridges on the Danube

Few bridges on the Danube

Obstacle

There are not enough bridges on the Danube in the area of Dunaalmás – Lábatlan – Szob – Nagymaros making it very difficult to cross (only the bridge of Esztergom is available).

Answer

The identified obstacle is mainly of an intergovernmental cooperation in nature. The main reason for the infrequent crossings is that the construction of a Danube bridge, including the associated road network, is a very expensive investment. An international legal act is needed to be put in writing the joint intention of the two governments to agree on the main technical conditions of the planned facility (e.g. a border crossing point) and the way the investment will be financed.
