The EgroNet network connects the public transport systems of four regions on the German-Czech border, allowing one-ticket travel in the historic Czech Republic, Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia. The initiative is based on a day ticket called “EgroNet Ticket”, which is a kind of season ticket that allows you to use the services of more than 60 partner companies in the area. Promoting car-free tourism, EgroNet tickets are valid for buses, trains, trams and local public transport, and also entitle the holder to use bicycles. If the service operates outside the ErgoNet area, traditional tickets must be purchased. On the basis of the territoriality principle, transport services are managed separately by each authority and coordinated by a working group (e.g. fare, timetable, marketing).[1]
The ticket remains valid after the interruption of the journey, the expiry date always being 03:00 on the day after the ticket is purchased. This allows the tourist to visit as many sites as possible on the day of ticket purchase. The list of available bus/train service and the corresponding timetables are available on the EgroNet website.
Tickets can be purchased via the mobile app, but also from ticket machines on the spot, at station ticket offices or on board vehicles. In the latter two cases, a surcharge will be applied. A preferential fare scheme for families has been developed, allowing three children (aged between 6 and 14) to travel free of charge if they are accompanied by an adult. Children under the age of six also travel free of charge. Group tickets are also available at a reduced price for up to 5 people.
The service is managed by Verkehrsverbund Vogtland GmbH. The revenue from ticket sales is made according to the cash register receipts, the revenue from the respective transport company remains the property of the same company.[2] The other transport companies do not receive any compensation for applying the tariff, but they pay an annual management fee of €3,000 (approximately €80,000 in total) to Verkehrsverbund Vogtland GmbH. The levy is mainly used for marketing, timetable coordination and other purposes.[3] The tariffs are also set in EUR and CZK.
