Since 2013, the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion has had a single health card system, which allows for a quick and secure overview of the proof of eligibility. With the “eGCi” or “eIZOM” card, and subject to certain health insurance, people living in the border region can access medical care on the other side of the border.
The design and maintenance of the system is linked to the two main health insurance funds (the German AOK Rheinland/Hamburg and the Dutch CZ). The two organisations guarantee their patients treated on the other side of the border, and the costs incurred are settled electronically between them.
The card can be redeemed at your own health insurer and can be used in the Rhine-Maas-Nord Euroregion and the Rhine-Waal Euroregion, as well as in the Meuse-Rhine Euroregion.
