The Chaves-Verín Eurocity EGTC was formed in 2013 through the cooperation of the Portuguese city of Chaves and the Spanish city of Verín, which, relying on their unique water resources, created a cross-border tourist destination.

The collaboration has resulted in the creation of several themed routes, including city walks, hiking trails and mountain bike routes. The routes come with downloadable maps and route descriptions containing the main parameters of the tour (distance, duration, required preparation, etc.). One of the highlights is a themed route based on local water resources, for which a booklet can be obtained from tourist offices (https://www.visitchavesverin.com/visit-chavesverin/uploads/writer_file/document/477/12_passaporte_rota_termal_e_da_agua_pt_es.pdf). Visitors who visit all the stops on the tour route (all six water extraction sites) and have this confirmed with a stamp at each point are eligible to participate in a prize draw. Prizes are drawn annually from among the successful participants of that year. In addition to the booklet, a separate travel guide (https://www.visitchavesverin.com/visit-chavesverin/uploads/writer_file/document/383/water_and_thermal_route_guide_en.pdf) and brochure (https://www.visitchavesverin.com/visit-chavesverin/uploads/writer_file/document/380/11_thermal_route_en.pdf) are also available to help hikers enjoy their experience.

In addition to the routes, the main activities and attractions are listed by theme. Those interested can filter cultural programs, water-related attractions, outdoor activities, and markets, among other things. Each attraction is accompanied by a short description, a map, and, in some cases, a brochure.

The event calendar and program booklet, which provide a clear overview of the major events of the year, help visitors plan their itinerary. In addition, a separate section (with a map) lists restaurants and accommodations in the area. Those interested in gastronomy will find videos and descriptions of local products and cuisine on the website, and can browse various wine tourism-related locations (wineries, fairs, museums) and activities.

All these events, hiking trails and cultural sites are coordinated by a network of local tourist offices (Cross-border Tourism Office).
