The region surrounding Lake Constance, which spans four countries, has a unified tourism destination management system. A joint tourism organization (Internationale Bodensee Tourismus GmbH) is responsible for maintaining this system. Thanks to the organization’s activities, the region has a unified tourism image:

  • uniform printed materials (brochures, flyers, catalogs, thematic and seasonal publications);
  • collection and presentation of information on attractions and events around the lake in a joint database, organized by theme;
  • a uniform database of accommodations and tourist packages (accommodations linked to activities);
  • coordination of tourist offices;
  • creation of a joint ticket (Bodensee Ticket) that allows discounted use of buses, trains, and ferries in a specific zone.

In addition to all this, the joint tourist card (Bodensee Card PLUS) is of the greatest importance, as it provides free admission to 160 locations. The personal (non-transferable) card can be purchased for 3 or 7 days, but can also be used intermittently within a year. The card can also be purchased as a gift voucher, which must be redeemed within 3 years. The cards are activated when used at the first place of acceptance and can be used unlimitedly on that day.

The tourist card offers discounts on attractions (tourist boats, cable cars, outdoor activities, baths, castles, museums, themed city walks) and tourist type (families, cyclists, climbers, foodies, culture lovers, water lovers). Accepting establishments can also be browsed using an interactive map (https://www.bodensee.eu/en/attractions-at-lake-constance), which includes filter options according to the listed themes. In addition, printed maps are also available.

The cards can be obtained online or on site, and the locations visited, personal data, and card status can be tracked on a separate user interface (https://tourist.avs.de/bcp/cp/en).
