The “Regatta for all” project was implemented within the IPA programme of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia, aiming to develop the technical capacity of rafting and cycling. The project, implemented from 2013 to 2014, included many activities, one of the most important was the issuing of a certificate for rafting guides, recognised by the International Rafting Federation (IRF), and the training of rafting guides. In addition, equipment was purchased, eco-rafting (litter picking along the Lim River), rafting for disabled and the designation of a cycle path. The partnership consisted of the Priboj tourist association on the Serbian side and the municipality of Rudo on the Bosnian side.

The tour guide training was conducted according to the IRF requirements. The training process was monitored by the IRF itself, resulting in new contacts, agreements and potential collaborations. The training series was organised in the category 3 Vrbas River and lasted for five days. The participants could learn about security measures, administrative obligations (e.g. how to renew the acquired certificate), the First Aid basics, rowing techniques, boat management, crisis management, international river signals, communication techniques and other skills needed for the exam. Finally, the training was concluded with an exam.

Participation in the training was conditional. Applications were only accepted from persons who were over 18 years of age, had a good knowledge of swimming, were in good physical condition, had completed a first aid training, were attending the training at their own risk, had the necessary equipment and paid the fee set by the IRF. If the candidates pass the test, the licence will be valid for two years, after which it will be subject to renewal.[1]
