Cross-border public transport with a single ticketing system has existed in the Euregio Meuse-Rhine since 1998. The service, called Euregioticket, is operated by the German transport company Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV). Thanks to their work, a uniform fare system, information, marketing and timetable have been created on a cross-border basis. In order to facilitate implementation, the company maintains a coordination office (Euregional Coordination Office), which coordinates the work of local public transport companies in the Euroregion.[1]

The Euregioticket system allows you to buy a ticket valid for one day, which can only be used in second class after special validation. There is an additional charge for transporting bicycles, but the conditions of travel are usually governed by the regulations of the public transport company. Discounts on the ticket system include free travel for young children under 4 years old and conditions on weekends and public holidays. On these days, two adults and three children (under 12) can travel with a single ticket.

With a valid ticket, you can use almost all bus and train services in the Euroregion, exceptions are explained in the marketing material published on the website. Tickets can be purchased online or on the spot.

The system is maintained and the revenues are redistributed in a predefined way. Regardless of the number of tickets sold, partners pay a fixed amount.[2]
