Due to Basel’s trinational catchment area, bilateral tickets – Swiss-German – were already established in 1995, while the French side was only connected in 2001. The Triregio ticketing system brings together the public transport network in the Basel area into a single fare system, offering a range of ticket types for people living in or visiting the area.
Triregio tickets can be purchased by zone, regardless of the type of transport used (train, bus or tram). The area covered by the tariff system includes the Nordwestschweiz region (the entire TNW network), the Lörrach area in Germany (RVL network), the SNCF line between Basel and Mulhouse and the entire area of the Distribus operator (Saint-Louis Agglomération).
Passengers can choose from different types of tickets to suit different travel habits.
- For occasional journeys, single tickets, group tickets (for 10 or more passengers), block tickets (6-passenger ticket) and connecting tickets can be purchased. The latter is used as a supplement to a season ticket valid up to the border.
- For longer excursions and touring the border region, day tickets are available, including the Ticket triregio valid for the entire border region, while the Ticket triregio mini is only valid for the narrower border region.
- Monthly and annual season tickets are available for local residents. Based on the zones covered by the commuter journey, you can choose between RegioCardPlus, RegioCardPlus light, DistriPass and Abo Presto combiné ticket types.
Tickets can be redeemed in both Swiss francs and euros. In addition to traditional sales methods (ticket machines, ticket offices, drivers), an app is also available.
In addition to a common fare system, a single marketing and customer service will help to inform passengers.
